SEC. 1051. DEFINITION OF ANIMAL UNDER THE ANIMAL WELFARE ACT.
Section 2(g) of the Animal Welfare Act (7 U.S.C. 2132(g)):
"excludes birds, rats of the genus Rattus, and mice of the genus Mus bred for use in research, horses not used for research purposes, and..."
-
Kenton County (where Covington is) defines "Domestic animal:" "Animals that are habituated to live in or about the habitations of human
beings, and which are kept, cared for, sheltered, fed, or harbored for use as a pet or as a source of food, raw materials or income" and defines
"Wild animal:" "Any animal not domesticated or not ordinarily tame and which is by nature an animal that lives apart from human beings."

-
Federal Law and State Law bans trade in most hazardous exotic species.
-
Federal law prohibits the trade of Prairie dogs and Gambian pouched rats.
-
Kentucky wildlife laws already prohibit keeping animals such as Gambian pouched rats and Prairie dogs.
Obviously those aren't all of the "facts." (If you can think of something that should be added, please use the Contact link to the left to let me
know!) But they are some ideas to help get you started.
