Covington Ban - Please Help!
Here are some points that you can include in your letters:
-
According to the CDC and the World Health Organization, there is no documented case of a human getting a zoonosis (a disease of animals that can be
transmitted to humans) from a domesticated fancy rat (Rattus norvegicus).
-
The animal that spread the monkeypox virus is the Gambian Pouched Rat (Cricetomys gambianus) and is recognized as exotic.
-
The only known zoonosis of rabbits is tularemia which is contracted from wild rabbits (not house rabbits). Tularemia is easily treated and curable
with antibiotics.
Obviously those aren't all of the "facts." (If you can think of something that should be added, please use the Contact link to the left to let me
know!) But they are some ideas to help get you started.
